Instructional Externship Candidates
The InScribe Instructional Externship Program accepts qualified graduates in medical transcription or other qualified fields who have successfully completed the Pre-Assessment Skills Evaluation and, via phone interview, have demonstrated a high level of competency in communication and the likelihood of success in the externship.
The fee for the Instructional Externship Program is $400. The extern-candidate must provide their own foot pedal. At this phase of the externship, any brand or generic foot pedal is acceptable. The extern will have the opportunity to transcribe 4000 lines of genuine dictation taken from InScribe accounts and receive professional feedback from their assigned instructor/mentor. The Instructional Externship shall not exceed 90 days, regardless of the number of lines the extern has transcribed.
If additional feedback and/or instruction becomes necessary at this stage in order to progress in the externship, an hourly administrative rate may apply, which become billable to the extern at the completion of the externship. With the exception of absolutely necessary calls, all questions should be done through IM or e-mail; however, if the need arises for an immediate response, if a mentor is not signed in to IM or a question needs more in-depth explanation than an IM or e-mail can facilitate, a phone call may be the better avenue.
The InScribe Extern should demonstrate five core qualities in order to be successful as an InScribe independent contractor. These qualities are:
- Trustworthiness. The extern is honest in all their dealings with InScribe staff.
- Motivation. The extern does their own research and invests time and talent in the success of both their team and InScribe.
- Dependability. The extern always does what they SAY they will do. They also commit 100% of their focus and attention while working. They always communicate when they will be unavailable, and the absences are always legitimate and reasonable.
- Attentiveness and Diligence. The extern always listens and incorporates instruction and feedback without having to be told repeatedly.
- Pride. The extern takes personal pride in their work, as evidenced by their consistency.
The extern may transcribe 2000 lines and, if the instructor/mentor believes the extern to be at a high level of competency, the extern may request a formal evaluation. If the extern completes the formal evaluation with an accuracy rating of 98%, the extern qualifies for a live externship on an InScribe account (dependent upon availability), where the extern will complete their externship under a mentor assigned to them from this account. In the event there is not an immediate position available on a live account, the extern will continue with offline voice files to complete their externship with a formal evaluation at 4000 lines. Upon completion of the formal evaluation, an InScribe Quality Assurance Specialist will assess your performance and make a determination as to whether you would be a good fit for InScribe. As mentioned previously, we look for five core qualities in our InScribers. We believe that with good training and these traits, you can be an excellent addition to our team. If the extern completes a formal evaluation with an accuracy rating of 99% or greater, the extern will be recommended to apply for a contract with InScribe as an independent contractor and can forego the application testing. If a formal evaluation score falls below 99% after 4000 lines, the extern will still have the opportunity to apply with InScribe but must complete and pass the application testing to move forward in the intake process.
